In facilities management only 10% of the leaders are women and it’s not hard to see why it’s traditionally been dominated by men. When I started out as a young civil engineer, if you were on a project, you were expected to work long hours and be on-call 24 hours, ready to drop everything and return to the site. One of my first jobs was overseeing a remote construction project where I was the only woman on site.
